Healing Journeys
The Marumali Program®: A Journey of Healing
The Marumali Program® is a nationally recognised, culturally safe, trauma-informed framework created by Aunty Lorraine Peeters, a survivor of the Stolen Generations. Grounded in cultural knowledge and lived experience, the program provides a healing pathway for individuals, families, and communities and builds the capability of service systems to deliver safer, more respectful, and culturally appropriate support.
Each workshop is delivered in a format tailored to the specific needs of its participants ranging from frontline service providers to young people, families, and government or non-government organisations. In addition to standard formats, programs can be customised to meet the cultural and operational needs of a particular client group or service setting.
The Marumali Program® supports:
-
Service providers and organisations to realise the widespread impact of forcible removal and understand the potential paths for recovery. It helps them recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma associated with removal policies in clients, families, and staff, and equips them with tools to avoid re-traumatising Stolen Generations survivors. Participants are supported to respond by integrating this knowledge into their policies, procedures, and everyday practice strengthening organisational capacity to deliver trauma-informed care.
-
Individuals, particularly Stolen Generations survivors and their families including Young People in our new focused progream, to strengthen resilience; and begin or continue their personal healing journey. Through a culturally grounded model of care, participants are empowered to recover from the trauma of removal and find renewed confidence, emotional awareness, and a stronger sense of belonging and purpose.
In the Workplace
Marumali at Work supports organisations, workplaces and professionals to build a deeper understanding of trauma, healing and culturally safe practice. Through culturally safe and trauma-informed learning experiences, participants gain practical knowledge and skills that strengthen engagement, improve service delivery and support positive outcomes for Aboriginal peoples, communities and colleagues.
In the Community
Marumali Program for the Community brings people together through culturally safe and trauma-informed programs that support healing, connection and wellbeing. Grounded in lived experience, cultural knowledge and shared learning, these programs create opportunities for individuals, families and communities to strengthen resilience, reconnect with culture and support healing journeys.
Supporting Young People
Marumali for Young People delivers culturally safe and trauma-informed programs that empower young people to build confidence, strengthen cultural identity and create positive pathways for the future. Working alongside communities, schools and service providers, our programs support young people through connection, learning and healing-focused experiences that promote wellbeing and resilience.
