Journey of Healing for Community and Justice Settings

Join us for a transformative four-day workshop designed to enhance your ability to support Stolen Generations survivors with cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care.

Understanding the Marumali Program®

The Marumali Program® – Journey of Healing is an award-winning, evidence-based, trauma-informed cultural healing program designed to equip Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants with the tools and knowledge to heal from their lived experiences of trauma, disconnection, and dispossession from identity, Country, waters, culture, and community.

This program is delivered in community settings and within the justice system, providing a safe and culturally grounded healing space for participants to reconnect with self, family, and culture.

Learning Outcomes

What You Will Learn

The program is structured around three key elements for healing:

Understanding the prevalence of trauma and pathways for healing – Recognising the long-term impacts of colonisation and removal policies, and the ways in which healing can be supported at an individual and collective level.

Recognising the signs and symptoms of trauma – Understanding how trauma affects individuals, families, communities, organisations, and social systems, including workplaces and the justice system.

Applying trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches – Learning strategies to prevent re-traumatisation and respond in a way that supports personal and collective healing.

Skills and Knowledge You Will Gain

Creating a safe space for healing

Learn how to recognise, discuss, and address trauma in a way that empowers healing and self-determination.

Engaging in culturally informed therapeutic healing

Understand the role of cultural, spiritual, and emotional healing practices in addressing grief and trauma.

Strengthening personal, cultural, and familial connections

Rebuilding ties to identity, Country, and community as a foundation for healing.

Understanding holistic support resources

Gain knowledge of culturally safe services and support systems that assist with the impacts of trauma.

This program provides a safe, trauma-informed space where participants can reflect on their experiences and develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to move forward on their healing journey.

Participant Outcomes

Informed, Respectful Engagement Practice

Participants complete the workshop with a more accurate and respectful understanding of Aboriginal history, identity, and the ongoing impact of colonisation and trauma.

They gain insight into their role in creating culturally safe spaces and develop new tools for embedding awareness into service delivery, policy, or practice. The program fosters honest reflection and helps shift unconscious bias, improving communication, inclusivity, and relational trust with First Nations peoples.

Whether in leadership, frontline roles, or back-office teams, participants leave with the knowledge, empathy, and confidence to support reconciliation through action. The experience often shifts perspectives in meaningful, lasting ways, laying the foundation for improved cultural capability.
