Program Insights
The Marumali Program® for Justice provides a culturally grounded and trauma informed healing program for First Nations people in prisons, correctional settings and diversionary programs, supporting healing, cultural identity, resilience and reconnection.
Grounded in the Marumali Journey of Healing Model, the program creates culturally safe spaces for participants to explore the impacts of trauma, removal, disconnection and intergenerational experiences while strengthening identity, belonging and connection to culture, family, community and Country.
The program recognises the strengths, resilience and lived experience each person brings. Participants are supported to understand their own healing journey, reconnect with identity and culture, build confidence and resilience, and identify positive pathways for life beyond the justice system.
Understanding trauma and its impacts - Explore how colonisation, removal, loss, disconnection and intergenerational trauma can affect identity, relationships, choices and wellbeing.
Strengthening identity and cultural connection - Explore identity, belonging and the role that culture, family, community and Country can play in healing, strength and wellbeing.
Understanding your healing journey - Use the Marumali Journey of Healing Model to understand healing as an individual journey and recognise the strengths, experiences and connections that can support it.
Skills and knowledge you will gain
Building connection and belonging - Explore ways to strengthen connection with culture, family, community and Country and understand how these connections can support wellbeing.
Recognising strengths and resilience - Identify personal strengths, cultural strengths and protective factors that can support healing, resilience and positive change.
Building confidence and positive choices - Strengthen self awareness, confidence and the ability to make choices that support personal goals, relationships and wellbeing.
Planning a positive future - Identify goals and aspirations, recognise opportunities and barriers, and begin building practical pathways towards education, employment, family, community and life beyond the justice system.
Supporting reconnection and reintegration - Explore the relationships, cultural connections, community supports and services that can help sustain healing and support a successful return to community.
Strengthening healing, identity and future pathways
The Marumali Program® creates a culturally safe space for participants to reflect on where they have come from, recognise their strengths and consider where they want to go next. By strengthening identity, cultural connection, resilience and self determination, the program supports participants to build positive pathways towards reconnection, reintegration and long term wellbeing
